Job Description: Transfer Station Attendant

Location: NE BC Various locations

Role Summary: As a Transfer Station Attendant, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the transfer station. This includes ensuring the proper disposal of waste, maintaining the facility, directing traffic, and upholding safety standards. Your role will involve interacting with the public and ensuring the transfer station operates smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exercise good public relations at all times, ensuring a positive experience for facility users.
  • Open and close the access gates at the Transfer Station according to the Hours of Operation, ensuring that all gates are properly secured outside of operating hours.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the perimeter fences to identify any occurrences of unauthorized entry, damage, or other issues.
  • Dispose of any unauthorized material dumped at the entrance gate or other locations, including any material dumped outside of operating hours.
  • Direct traffic flow at the Transfer Station with regard to public safety and in accordance with the traffic management plan.
  • Supervise the placement of waste into containers and the compactor system, as appropriate.
  • Remove any non-compliant materials from deposited loads.
  • Prevent the scavenging of waste, recyclable, or product stewardship materials by facility users.
  • Maintain all buildings on site, including the yard, in a clean condition. This may include the collection and disposal of fugitive waste material and litter that escapes during the operation of the facilities, winter maintenance such as shoveling snow, and sweeping in and around all buildings.

Skills, Experience, & Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of general laborer experience.
  • Competent at completing documents on a daily basis.
  • Good understanding of regional Occupational Health and Safety requirements and the ability to operate mobile equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to persevere through difficult weather conditions and challenging worksite environments.
