Job Overview:
GrizzlyTrek is currently seeking one Senior Mobile Equipment Maintenance Planner to join our Valued Clients team supporting a high-production metallurgical coal mining operation in Northern British Columbia near Chetwynd. This is a full-time position ideally suited to an experienced maintenance professional committed to safety, operational excellence, and reliability in a large-scale mining environment.

This role is responsible for planning, scheduling, and optimizing maintenance activities for a heavy mobile equipment fleet including haul trucks, loaders, hydraulic shovels, and auxiliary equipment from leading manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Hitachi. The successful candidate will ensure all maintenance work is fully planned, resourced, and executable prior to scheduling, maximizing equipment availability and supporting safe and efficient mining operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed maintenance job plans for preventative, corrective, and shutdown maintenance activities.

  • Build and maintain weekly schedules and 14–30 day lookahead maintenance plans.

  • Ensure labour, parts, tooling, and external services are confirmed prior to job execution.

  • Maintain a healthy maintenance backlog and prioritize work based on production risk, safety impact, and operational needs.

  • Analyze equipment failure history and maintenance data to identify repeat failures, reliability gaps, and opportunities for defect elimination.

  • Support Root Cause Analysis initiatives and continuous improvement of preventative maintenance strategies.

  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of the CMMS system including work orders, job plans, equipment records, and bill of materials.

  • Coordinate with supply chain and maintenance teams to ensure parts and resources are available when required.

  • Monitor maintenance KPIs including equipment availability, MTBF, MTTR, and schedule compliance.

  • Support cost control by forecasting labour and material requirements and identifying opportunities for maintenance efficiency.

  • Ensure job packages include proper safety documentation, JHAs, permits, and isolation procedures.

  • Maintain documentation and processes that support regulatory compliance and audit readiness.

Qualifications:

  • Trade certification as a Heavy Equipment Technician, or Mechanical/Engineering Technologist Diploma, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in heavy mobile equipment maintenance within mining or heavy industrial operations.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in maintenance planning or scheduling within a CMMS-driven environment.

  • Strong experience working with CMMS platforms such as SAP, Maximo, JD Edwards, or equivalent systems.

  • Advanced understanding of heavy mining equipment systems including Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, and similar fleets.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze maintenance data and develop practical maintenance plans that improve equipment reliability.

  • Strong attention to detail, planning discipline, and documentation standards.

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills when working with maintenance, operations, and supply chain teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience planning maintenance activities for large mining mobile equipment fleets.

  • Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance practices, condition-based maintenance strategies, and defect elimination programs.

  • Previous experience in a high-production open pit mining environment.

Work Environment:
This role is based at an active mining operation in Northern British Columbia near Chetwynd and includes both office-based planning responsibilities and field coordination with maintenance and operations teams. The position requires adherence to strict safety standards and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment while working in an industrial mining environment.
