GrizzlyTrek is seeking one Excavator Operator to join our valued client's team in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. This is a temporary position running 12 hour shifts, suited to an operator committed to precision and safety on pipeline right-of-way work. The focus of this role is finishing work. You will handle final trench grade, backfill and compaction over installed pipe, then carry the right-of-way through cleanup and reclamation: recontouring, topsoil replacement, and restoring the corridor toward preconstruction condition. This is fine control work on the machine. Candidates must reside in the Dawson Creek region.
What You'll Do
- Operate excavators safely and efficiently on pipeline right-of-way, with the focus on finishing and reclamation rather than bulk production digging.
- Cut and dress final trench grade to survey and engineering specification.
- Perform padding, backfill, and compaction over installed pipe without damaging coating or bedding.
- Recontour the right-of-way to preconstruction profile, including crown, ditch line, and slope restoration.
- Strip, stockpile, and replace topsoil in correct horizon order to support successful revegetation.
- Complete cleanup, debris removal, and final grade ahead of seeding and erosion control.
- Maintain awareness of underground utilities, existing pipe, and environmental sensitivities such as watercourse crossings and setbacks.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections, log findings, and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Work with ground crews, spotters, and environmental monitors, follow direction from site supervision, and adhere to all safety protocols, permits, and ground disturbance procedures.
What You Bring
- Proven experience operating excavators on pipeline or right-of-way construction.
- Demonstrated finishing ability: final grade, backfill, and reclamation to specification.
- Residence in the Dawson Creek region.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to site.
- Strong understanding of safe excavation practices and ground disturbance requirements.
- Ability to read and follow stakes, grade markers, and alignment sheets.
- Ability to work 12 hour shifts outdoors in variable weather and terrain.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ground Disturbance Level II.
- CSTS, Standard First Aid, and H2S Alive.
- Experience with grade control or machine control systems.
- Familiarity with Peace Region terrain, soil conditions, and reclamation standards.
Work Environment
- Outdoor work on active pipeline right-of-way in variable weather and terrain.
- 12 hour shifts with physically demanding tasks.
- Rural work locations accessible from the Dawson Creek region.
- Personal protective equipment required at all times, with work performed under environmental monitoring and regulatory oversight.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications, with overtime opportunities based on operational requirements.
- Life insurance: $100,000 employee, $10,000 spouse, $5,000 per child.
- AD&D insurance with critical illness and cancer coverage.
- Extended health care: drugs, hospital, hearing, orthotics, and nursing.
- Paramedical services: chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage, and mental health, with annual coverage.
- Vision care (glasses, contacts, laser surgery, exams) and dental care (80% basic to $2,500, 50% major to $2,500, $2,500 orthodontic for children).
