The Role
GrizzlyTrek is recruiting one experienced Bear Watch (Wildlife Monitor) to join our valued client's team at a remote mine site in Nunavut. This role is responsible for monitoring work areas for polar bear and wildlife activity, helping ensure the safety of personnel working in remote Arctic environments.
The successful candidate will work closely with site operations, environmental teams, and supervisors to identify wildlife risks and support safe work execution.

Preference will be given to Indigenous candidates, although qualified applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

What You'll Do
  • Monitor designated work areas for bear and wildlife activity.
  • Conduct regular patrols and visual inspections before and during work activities.
  • Alert workers, supervisors, and environmental personnel immediately when wildlife activity is observed or suspected.
  • Maintain constant situational awareness in active work areas.
  • Communicate wildlife observations and safety concerns to site stakeholders.
  • Complete required reports and documentation.
  • Participate in site safety meetings, orientations, and toolbox talks.
  • Follow all company and client health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Support safe field operations in remote Arctic conditions.
What You Bring
  • Strong observation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable working outdoors for extended periods in changing weather conditions.
  • Physically fit and capable of walking uneven terrain.
  • Ability to pass pre-access screening requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous Bear Watch, Wildlife Monitor, Environmental Monitor, Guide, Conservation, Security, or remote field experience.
  • Experience working in remote camps, mining operations, exploration programs, or northern environments.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
Training Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to complete all client-specific training, including:
  • Site Orientation
  • Construction Orientation
  • Driver Awareness
  • Bear Awareness
  • Lockout/Tagout Awareness
  • Any additional site-specific training required by the client
