GrizzlyTrek is seeking Third Class Power Engineers to join our valued client's team at a sour gas processing facility in the Rocky Mountain House area of Alberta.This is a full-time contract role supporting the restart and ongoing operation of the plant, with strong potential to transition to permanent employment with the client for the right operators.
What You'll Do
- Operate the sour gas plant from the control room, monitoring and controlling process units through the DCS
- Direct and support field operators during normal operations, startups, shutdowns, and upset conditions
- Manage amine (MDEA) treating, sulfur recovery, tail gas cleanup, and incineration to meet targets and specifications
- Execute startup and shutdown sequences safely as part of the plant restart and ongoing operation
- Troubleshoot process and equipment problems, taking corrective action to maintain safe and stable operation
- Monitor sour gas and H2S conditions, ensuring strict compliance with sour service safety protocols
- Oversee dehydration, compression (reciprocating and gas turbine driven), and steam and boiler systems
- Complete operating logs, shift reports, and compliance documentation accurately
- Support and mentor junior operators and fourth class power engineers on shift
What You Bring
- Valid ABSA Third Class Power Engineer certificate
- 5 or more years of operating experience in a gas plant or sour gas facility
- Valid H2S Alive certification
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification
- Demonstrated control room and DCS operating experience
- Willing and able to work a 7 on, 7 off rotation with 12-hour day and night shifts
- Reside in the Rocky Mountain House area or able to provide own accommodations
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience with amine treating and Claus sulfur recovery operations
- Experience commissioning or restarting gas plant process units
- Experience mentoring or directing field operators
- Ground Disturbance, Confined Space Entry, and Fall Protection tickets
- Progress toward Second Class Power Engineer certification
Work Environment
- Based at a sour gas processing facility in the Rocky Mountain House area, running as a continuous 24/7 operation with amine (MDEA) treating, sulfur recovery, tail gas cleanup, dehydration, and gas and steam driven compression.
- Work involves exposure to H2S and requires strict adherence to sour service safety protocols at all times, with required personal protective equipment including respiratory protection.
- Operators work in outdoor field conditions in all seasons as well as in the control room. Daily transportation is provided from Rocky Mountain House.
