Shift Schedule: Monday to Friday 

Hours Per Day: 8 hours per day

Job Overview:
GrizzlyTrek is currently seeking one Lead Planning/Scheduling Engineer (EPC) to join our client’s team at an industrial construction job site in Edmonton, Alberta. This is a full-time position, ideally suited to an individual with strong leadership skills and a commitment to excellence and safety.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development, integration, maintenance, monitoring, analysis, and reporting of project schedules for EPC projects.

  • Lead the planning team and engage with project teams to develop detailed work plans and schedules for engineering, procurement, subcontracts, construction, and commissioning activities.

  • Monitor progress against project timelines and milestones, identifying schedule variances, risks, and opportunities.

  • Analyze schedule impacts of changes to project scope, resources, or priorities and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Prepare comprehensive schedule reports and presentations to communicate status and performance to stakeholders.

  • Provide recommendations to optimize project schedules, including resource leveling, critical path analysis, and schedule compression.

  • Coordinate with project teams to resolve schedule-related issues and conflicts.

  • Facilitate and participate in project meetings to provide schedule updates and recommendations.

  • Conduct routine site walkthrough visits to gather, assess, and validate construction progress, which may require walking on uneven surfaces and climbing industrial construction platforms.

  • Develop and maintain schedule breakdown structures in accordance with project requirements, ensuring integration of coding structures as needed.

  • Prepare drafts of network logic diagrams for project segments or the entire project.

  • Perform forward and backward pass assessments and critical path analysis for project scheduling.

  • Compile and organize planning information, preparing project schedule versions at various stages (preliminary, 90-day lookahead, master schedule).

  • Utilize Primavera P6 as the primary scheduling and reporting tool.

  • Review short-cycle schedule impacts and prepare CPM project schedule analysis.

  • Collect, validate, and integrate schedule and earned value progress information from vendors and contractors.

  • Manage schedule resource loading activities and execution of planning and scheduling activities.

  • Ensure routine schedule backups and archiving of reports.

  • Collect historical project data for reporting, metrics, and performance analysis.

  • Integrate project changes into schedule forecasts and maintain the project schedule baseline.

  • Develop alternatives to accommodate changes and priorities.

  • Facilitate meetings with project team members, vendors, and contractors to address and update schedule status and forecasts.

  • Assist the Project Controls Manager with the coordination, monitoring, reporting, and oversight of planning engineering activities for both field and engineering design center functions.

  • Provide proactive and accurate schedule management assessments to support the project management team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field.

  • Extensive experience as a Lead Planning/Scheduling Engineer in EPC mega projects within oil and gas, petrochemicals, or industrial gases industries. (15+ years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.)

  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling software.

  • Proven experience in project management principles and techniques, including schedule development, resource management, earned value management, and risk management/analysis.

  • Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to lead and work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience overseeing planning teams on large-scale industrial construction projects.

  • Familiarity with integrating multiple scheduling and cost management systems.

  • Additional certifications in project controls, scheduling, or construction management.

  • Requires routine site walkthroughs, walking on uneven surfaces, and climbing industrial construction platforms.

  • Collaborative work with multidisciplinary teams, vendors, and contractors.
